Choose your A1.1 Extensive Course (Without prior knowledge)
The A1.1 Extensive course is your first step into the world of German: with 1 class per week of 2.5 hours over approximately 3 months, you start building the foundations of the language at a pace that fits your professional life. Includes live classes, recordings, +30 hours of online activities and 24/7 access to the AI tutor DAIna.
A1.1 is the first half of the A1 level. Once you complete A1.1 + A1.2, you will be ready to take the international exam ÖSD Zertifikat A1, Goethe-Zertifikat A1 or telc A1 — internationally recognised for family reunification visas in Germany and Austria.
Who is this course for?
Complete beginners who have never studied German or have minimal prior knowledge.
Busy professionals who want to make steady progress without committing to 2–3 classes per week.
Doctors and nurses with rotating shifts who are starting the journey towards B2/C1.
Those who prefer a measured pace — with time to absorb, review and consolidate before moving on.
Why do I need the A1 level?
The A1 certificate is your first official proof of German. Beyond being a personal milestone, it is a legal requirement in many immigration contexts — and the gateway to the German-speaking world for those who learn out of passion.
🇩🇪 In Germany:
Family reunification (Ehegattennachzug) — the A1 certificate is a mandatory requirement for the spousal reunification visa in Germany. It must be presented before entering the country.
Marriage visa in Germany with subsequent permanent residence — also requires A1.
First step towards professional life — A1 is the foundation for A2 and B1, which are required for vocational training (Ausbildung) and the recognition of foreign qualifications.
🇦🇹 In Austria:
Deutsch vor Zuwanderung (German before immigration) — for the first application of certain residence permits (such as the Niederlassungsbewilligung for family members), proof of A1 knowledge before entry is required.
Family reunification — a spouse wishing to join their partner in Austria must present an A1 certificate from a recognised institution (ÖIF, ÖSD, Goethe-Institut or telc).
🇨🇭 In Switzerland:
Residence permit (Permit B / Aufenthaltsbewilligung) — may require A1 as an initial condition or as part of an integration agreement after arrival.
Integration criteria — demonstrating basic language knowledge is one of the criteria assessed for permit renewal.
🌍 For your personal life:
Your first real conversations — introducing yourself, asking for something in a shop, asking for directions, talking about your family and daily routine.
Understanding the essentials — signs, simple forms, announcements on public transport and restaurant menus.
Connecting with the culture — understanding simple songs, recognising words in films and series, reading short texts about festivals and traditions.
Learning for the joy of it — because you love the language, you're curious about DACH culture, you want to challenge yourself intellectually, or simply because learning something new makes you happy. You don't need a visa to have a good reason!
